About the Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented Civil Estimator to join a growing estimating team within a civil construction environment. This role is responsible for preparing accurate, competitive bids by analyzing project documentation, performing quantity take-offs, coordinating with subcontractors, and supporting bid strategy development.
The ideal candidate will be highly organized, analytical, and comfortable managing multiple bids simultaneously while collaborating closely with estimating leadership and business development.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and analyze bid documents including drawings, specifications, schedules, geotechnical reports, and addenda
- Request and manage all required bid information (plans, quantities, CAD files, reports, etc.)
- Perform detailed quantity take-offs and earthwork analysis, including cut/fill reviews
- Review site conditions and determine requirements such as test holes or special investigations
- Coordinate with subcontractors and vendors to obtain pricing and confirm scope coverage
- Evaluate quotes to ensure accuracy, completeness, and alignment with project scope
- Review historical cost data to support accurate estimating and pricing decisions
- Prepare and submit RFIs and clarification questions to engineers within required timelines
- Track addendums and ensure all changes are incorporated into final bids
- Participate in bid review meetings and collaborate on bid strategy and risk assessment
- Maintain awareness of market conditions and competitive positioning
- Support final bid preparation, review, and submission
Qualifications & Experience
- College degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred
- 3-5 years of experience in civil construction estimating or a similar role
- Strong understanding of sitework, earthwork, and civil construction scopes
- Proficiency with estimating software (e.g., HCSS) and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
- Excellent attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a team
